Who's afraid of Detroit? DEMF - This year's Detroit Electronic Music Festival will showcase top DJs and electro artists on May 26-28. How to be a DJ Ho Now that we have that down, let me give you some background. I've been around this crazy music for a good while and have seen a lot and heard a lot, and witnessed a lot of DJ ho's too. So, with my experience in hand, let me mold you into the best DJ ho. Gay, straight, bi… doesn't matter 'cuz DJs are traveling loners and they want some ass too. Protogen Records: A Selekta Junglist Nation Spotlight While German Drum & Bass is not unheard of, Protogen Recordings looks to be one of the most promising UK labels to rise to the top in recent months. I spoke to DJ Typecell, (Guido Hoppe) who is label head and founder, to find out where the label, as well as Drum & Bass, is headed in the near future...

The Selekta interview with Bryan Zents He really needs no introduction... Zents (aka Barada) has been producing hits for the last 12 years. Both his production and mixing skills have made many a body move, and that's why we are blessed to have been able to spend some time with him. Bogdan Raczynski: The Selekta Interview From Abdullah K to Bogdan Raczynski, He's got a deep mind and even deeper music. Asha checks in to talk about music and the expertise behind rollin' the dice. Dieselboy: The Selekta Interview ".... I am running through the train station looking for Dieselboy (aka Damian Higgins, 29) and I'm so late for the interview that I should be wrapping up now and driving him to his gig in Sterling, Virginia. Instead, I can't find the right restaurant, and have just realized that the batteries in my tape recorder are dead. The newest named resident DJ of DC's prestigious weekly club event, "Buzz," is waiting for me, and I am quickly becoming unglued. Mark Reeder: The Man Behind The Curtain MFS. Masterminded For Success. The pioneering Berlin based label that sets the standard that all underground labels are judged by is now entering its 10th year of existence without selling out to 'the man', a milestone that (unfortuantely) few labels have managed to reach. The address has changed a few times over the years, but the label's dedication to the future of underground dance music has not.

March '07 Update from Dessous Recordings Here's an update from Dessous Recordings for March 06, 2007 which includes information on "Enter the Night", an amazing new track by Mazi, a true Selekta favorite. Give it a listen. Gain Recordings: A Selekta Drum & Bass Spotlight I’m told it all began in field, with a couple of drum & bass heads - dubbed Mackie and Wrisk. Drifting in Silence - Fallto - Labile Recordings Lush, sweeping synths and vocals awash in reverb make for boring stuff when an album lacks the emotion to support such sounds. Luckily, Drifting in Silence has what it takes to make the electronica more than just filler. Standout tracks include "Texture" and "Unknowndivide," which features Jess Hewitt of Drev. Drev also drops a wicked remix of the vocal-laced "Chameleon," injecting industrial-quality breaks and a sick vocal filter, to make for a dancefloor smash. This is the third album from Drifting in Silence frontman, Derrick Stembridge, and his work has steadily become riskier and more danceworthy. He plays and records his own instruments, layering repeatedly to produce the dense structures on Fallto. I imagine hearing the muted synths and steady percussion of "Pretend" or Drev's "Chameleon" remix in the mix with a minimal techno piece, just enough to make the crowd shake. Stembridge has a winner on his hands with Fallto. If you're into the melodic, airy stuff, with vocals and synths vying for your attention, Drifting in Silence has got your number. Map of What is Effortless Telefon Tel Aviv's second album, Map of What Is Effortless, is a different, yet satisfying follow-up.
